An Uulturex or "Vortex Monster" is a distant relative of the Beholder. As a floating 4' sphere with large bulbous eyes on the side of its head and a giant gaping mouth, it appears to be quite frightening. Although it is not very intelligent it is a very cunning hunter.

COMBAT
An Uulturex usually only attacks if provoked or to stifle its insaciable hunger. Uulturexs usually sit back and use their vortex attack, but if it fails twice, they run away in fear of being killed. If hunting prey, they will attack from odd angles, such as through the walls or floors.
Vortex (Ex): At the center of an Uulturex is a small black hole that it can control. When it choses to, an Uulturex can uleash the black holes fury, causing everything in a 40' long cone to be sucked in to it, warping from the massive gravity as it goes through the tiny opening inside the monster. Creatures in the air at the time must succeed a Reflex save (DC 24) or be sucked in and never to return unless the Uulturex is slain (and not meerly a natural death) or wish or miracle is used. Creatures on the ground must succeed at a Reflex save (DC 16) or suffer the same fate. With the feat Improved Reflexes, on a failed save, instead of being sucked in, you move towards the monster a number of feet equal to half the distance between you and it.
Explosive Death (Ex): If a Uulturex is slain, it and the black hole it harbors, explode dealing 8d8 damage to everything within 40' of it. This damage is from all of the stuff it sucked in over its lifetime and there could be trasure within it (DMs, treat as standard treasure for purpose of rewards).
