Slider rats are a distant cousin of the common rat, closely related to the less common dire rat. They are thought to have been created through careful breeding of dire rats, searching for the sparks of mental energy. The slider rats are the fruits of their labor, cunning scavengers who feast upon the unwanted refuse of society. Over the years slider rats have developed an unwanted taste for psionic creatures, and they often pursue psionic users through cities for days. Slider rats are often seen throughout large metropolises, in places where one would expect to see dire rats. Often when they are seen, people just dismiss them as abnormally weak but exceptionally fast dire rats. In reality they are no faster than the average dire rat, it is their psionic power that allows them to disappear unseen. Larger slider rats are often mistaken for wild dogs, and rumors of even larger slider rats surface as mysterious horses.
COMBAT Slider rats are normally content to scavenge through discarded refuse in the shadows of the city. When threatened, slider rats prefer to run away (or teleport away) from the danger rather than fighting it. If alone, a single slider rat will never stay and fight, they will always find some means of escape. When escape is cut off for one reason or another, a group of slider rats will concentrate their efforts on one creature at a time, firing a few ego whips at a target before moving into flanking positions to attack. When they know they are facing a psionic foe, their tactics change. A group of slider rats will simultaneously fire ego whips at the psionic target, hoping to either paralyze their foe, or at the very least deplete the psionic foes power points through psionic combat. Only when their foe is significantly weakened will they move into flanking positions to attack. Psionics (Sp): At willdimension strike (found here). This ability is manifested as a 14th level psion. Attack/Defense Modes (Sp): At willego whip/empty mind. Attack DCs; non-psionic: d20 2; psionic (flatfooted): d20 +14; psionic (defending): d20 +6 +defense bonus. Stuns non-psionic creatures for 1d4 rounds, deals psionic creatures 1d4 dexterity damage. Skills: Slider rats receive a +4 racial bonus on Hide checks.
